Joys and Concerns in September

Celebrating Joys

  • On September 15, JT Crook’s cousin, Phillip Crook, married his fiancé Chris in Pittsburgh. Phillip is Bryan’s Crook’s son and the last of the Crook grandchildren to be married.

  • Solar panel installation has begun at First Baptist Matanzas (Cuba). In addition, the church has received the shipment of supplies we sent some months ago. Wanda called it, “... good news shining a light of hope amidst power outages lasting more than 24 hours.”

  • Our sister church, Binkley Baptist in Chapel Hill commemorated their 67th anniversary. As part of this celebration, Pullen member and former Binkley pastor, Jim Pike, was named Pastor Emeritus.

  • Michael Watkins and Shannon Ball have been declared cancer free.

  • Jeanne Kauss is recovering from a successful knee replacement surgery.

  • Bekah Rhea is doing well after surgery.

  • Tim Stephenson is home and doing well after a month in the hospital.

Praying in Loss

We remember and pray for:

  • Barbara Lemons in the loss of her husband Jack Lemons. Jack died on September 14 after a year of declining health. A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at Pullen on October 4 at 11 am. We hold Barbara and all of Jack’s family in our prayers, as they grieve the death of their beloved.

  • The family of Kathleen Smithwick. Kathleen died on September 14 in Winston-Salem, where she moved some years ago to be near her son and his family. Later this year, a private family service will be held to inter Kathleen’s ashes in the Pullen columbarium.

Praying with Our Community

We remember and pray for:

  • Sharron Underwood who is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

  • Susan Pike who is recovering at home after suffering a stroke.

  • Gail Longmire who is recovering after stomach surgery.

  • Jeff Cherry’s father who is recovering at home after a hospitalization.

  • Allen Tew who is at home after being hospitalized for a blood clot.

  • Gail Carson who is hopeful that the results of her recent brain scan will show no significant issues.

  • Rob Thompson who is resting comfortably at home after a hospital procedure to treat his prostate cancer.

  • Dan Figgins who suffered a concussion from which he is still experiencing unexplained, debilitating effects.
