Joys and Concerns in October

Pullen is a loving, compassionate community that cares for and shares with one another — in sickness and in health, in good times and in troubled times.

Read the joys and concerns that we shared in October.

Celebrating Joys

  • We give thanks with Mary Wayne Watson. After months of going between the hospital and rehab, she is making progress at home and can walk again, unassisted.

  • We celebrate with Sarah Dinger, who married her beloved, Phil Andraea, on October 12.

  • We celebrate with our Communications Director, Kate Clay, and her husband, Kevin Clay. Kate delivered a healthy baby boy, Judah, on October 24.

  • Abby Sandling's daughter, Julia, is 6 months along in her pregnancy after 12 years, 3 surgeries, and multiple IVF cycles. The due date should be late December or early January, and it is a girl!

Praying in Loss

We remember and pray for:

  • Gene and Theresa Moore in the sudden death of Gene's brother, Charlie LaVerne Moore, who passed away on October 4 in Abbeville, SC.

  • The family of Joe Beamon, a Pullen member who died on September 14. Joe’s memorial service was held on October 11 at Pullen.

  • The family of our beloved Deborah Brogden. Deborah died on October 21 in her Durham home from an apparent heart attack. A memorial service celebrating Deborah’s life was held at Pullen on November 1. We especially hold Deborah’s daughters, Heather and Meredith, in our prayers.

Praying with Our Community

We remember and pray for:

  • Sharron Underwood, as she undergoes treatment for cancer.

  • Georgette Foster, as she completes cancer treatment.

  • Lea Slaton’s mother, Jane Pardue, who is recovering from surgery.

  • Nancy Petty’s mother, Cora Petty, who remains in rehab after breaking her shoulder.

  • Vernon Burkhart, who fell and broke his arm.

  • Al McSurley, one of the architects of Moral Mondays and a friend of Pullen, who fell and is in intensive care with a brain bleed.

  • Brett Freeman, as he tries to secure a job that pays a living wage.

  • Trevor Colleton, who had an accident while training a horse last month and is facing a long recovery. Trevor and his husband, Austin, were active members before Trevor was deployed. They now live in Alamance County.

  • Ms. Grunston, a Round Table guest, who is recovering from a recent hospitalization.

  • Ana Christina, a Round Table guest, who needs a home for herself and her partner.

Praying with Our World

We remember and pray for:

  • Our friends in Cuba who are experiencing a debilitating mosquito-borne illness. You can help by donating DEET-based bug spray and mosquito nets for our trip to Matanzas in December.

  • Our friends in Jamaica and our siblings in Cuba, in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.

  • Christians who are facing persecution in China.

  • The people of Gaza.
