Joys and Concerns in July
Celebrating Joys
Jill Hinton’s son, Sam, and his wife, Kat, had their first baby, Sage Colby Keel, on July 2.
Noelle and Rob Schofield’s daughter, Elly, and her husband, Dan, welcomed Simon James Rufolo into the world on July 14.
Tony Quartararo’s son, Anthony, had a successful surgery to treat prostate cancer and does not anticipate any additional treatment.
Praying in Loss
We remember and pray for:
Barbara Parramore, who died on July 1, at 93 years old. She was a former principal of Wiley School. She joined Pullen in 1966 and was a true believer in Pullen’s mission and message. We hold her daughters, Lisa and Lynn, in our prayers. Barbara’s service will be held at Pullen on Saturday, August 1 at 1 pm.
Round Table guest Renata, who died recently. She had not been attending Round Table as much in the last year after securing housing. She had also been having health problems in the last year.
Susan Rogers in the loss of her brother, Jerry Schrader, who passed away on July 6.
Lindsey and Cathy Corbin in the loss of Cathy’s sister, Pat, who passed away on July 6.
Sarah Bowen in the loss of her grandmother, Joyce Simons, who died on July 17 at 97 years old. Since the pandemic, Joyce joined us weekly via livestream.
Our friends Etedal and Abdul: Etedal's nephew and his whole family were killed by Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon recently. Their home was bombed as they slept.
Praying with Our Community
We remember and pray for:
Theresa Moore, who is now at home after a hospitalization due to complications of diabetes.
Laura Ford, who is slowly recovering at home from a fractured pelvis.
James Crook, who is recovering at home after shoulder surgery.
Bo Reece, who was briefly hospitalized due to the effects of vertigo.
Brenda Hunter, mother of Pam Dempsey and grandmother of Caroline Dempsey, who is recovering at home following abdominal surgery.
Lloyd Jones’ father, who is home after weeks in the hospital. We also pray for Lloyd and his sisters as they care for their parents.
Shelly Cummings asks us to pray for her sister’s partner, Cathy Aiken, who had a heart attack and will require open-heart surgery. She had recently gained custody of her 2-year-old grandson, who has been through a lot in his life. We pray that his grandmother will remain a stable part of his life for many years to come.
Praying with Our World
The U.S. oil embargo and sanctions continue to make it hard for our siblings in Cuba. They have experienced several country-wide blackouts as temperatures near 100 degrees daily. One member of First Baptist Church of Matanzas, Carolina, was having a carcinoma removed from her back when the power went out mid-surgery. Thankfully, although the backup generator didn’t start immediately, the doctors were able to finish the surgery. We continue to pray for justice-love to prevail.
