Joys and Concerns in September
Celebrating Joys
We celebrate the return of the Sai Center’s healthcare day, which has not been held since the pandemic. Using our space, they provided free health services.
We offer gratitude for the 30 Pullenites who joined us at St. Francis of Assisi on September 19 for the ONE Wake Assembly. It was a beautiful, intergenerational gathering that highlighted the need for affordable housing in Wake County, shared the projects our collective work is making possible, and invited our elected officials to continue working on affordability in our county.
We are happy to report that the items for our friends in Matanzas were delivered to the church in September. We are grateful for everyone who donated.
We are grateful that Ann Todd is back home after surgery to repair a hernia.
We are thankful that baby Reece Crampton is doing well after surgery.
Peg O’Connell shares with gratitude that her husband, Jack Lewis, celebrated his 90th birthday on September 19. She asks for our joyful prayers for his continued good health and well-being.
September 3 was Issa’s first anniversary as Pullen’s Minister with Youth and Their Families. We celebrate the vital ministry that he offers to and with our youth.
Praying in Loss
We remember and pray for:
The family of Barbara Ann Hughes, who passed away peacefully on September 1 at the age of 88. Barbara Ann was a remarkable person and a faithful Pullen member to the end. Her service will be held at Pullen on October 10 at 11 am.
The Crook family in the loss of Laura Crook. She died peacefully on September 20 after battling multiple myeloma.
Praying with Our Community
We remember and pray for:
Nicolas Lira, who was hit by a car while riding his bike last month. He was hospitalized at UNC Hospital with two broken vertebrae. He is now recovering at home.
Bartola Garcia, who has been a faithful childcare worker and friend to many of our families. She has returned to Pullen after several weeks of recovery from surgery.
Sharron Underwood, who is back home after a hospitalization for digestive issues.
Dawn Cummings, a friend of Barbara Smalley McMahan, who is having health issues after orthopedic surgery.
Annette Epps, who was hospitalized after a fall and is now recovering at the Springmoor health center.
We are honored that our Round Table guests take the time to share their prayer requests with us. So, we pray with:
Rhonda, who is praying for healing, to get her car back, and for her babies and fur-babies to be safe and protected.
Donald, who is praying for his health as he deals with neuropathy, and to be approved for housing.
Robert, who is hoping to secure housing.
Jessica, who needs a tent and campsite.
Michelle, who asks for prayer for her family, her friends, and for a home.
Michael, who says, “Please pray for me.”
Praying with Our World
We continue to remember the people of Nepal who are experiencing devastating loss in the wake of flooding. This tragedy is a reminder that climate change doesn’t necessarily have the most immediate impact on those who contribute the most to it. May we be mindful of how we live and the way it impacts others.
We continue to pray for our international partners: our siblings at First Baptist Church, Matanzas, Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia, and AMOS in Nicaragua. All are experiencing very difficult, troubling times.
