Historical Oberlin Village Guided Walking Tour

Fourteen Pullenites recently enjoyed a walking tour of Historic Oberlin Village on a beautiful Saturday morning. We learned so much about the rich history of this African-American neighborhood that grew out of an antebellum Free Black settlement. At its height following Reconstruction, it stretched more than a mile along the current Oberlin Road and was a thriving and industrious community.

Our tour guide shared fascinating anecdotes about the people who lived there, and we viewed seven historic properties, including the Oberlin Cemetery and Wilson Temple United Methodist Church. Preservation of these sites has been made possible through the work of The Friends of Oberlin Village (FOV) and Preservation North Carolina.

If you missed this opportunity, you can sign up for an FOV walking tour offered to the public on the third Saturday of the month at 10 am. Learn more and register at https://friendsofoberlinvillage.org/contact/
