Our "Green" Addition
In February 2009, Pullen dedicated 9,800 square feet of green space. Green design recognizes the relationship between structures, people, and the environment. Green design also upholds Pullen's tradition of cherishing the earth. Pullen chose design elements that allowed it to meet its space goals within a healthy and comfortable structure that offers reduced maintenance and operation costs. To preserve and protect the environment, the addition was built using recycled materials, and features a green roof, rainwater cistern, geothermal heating/cooling, and daylighting to take advantage of natural light.
On March 11, 2009, the Rev. Canon Sally Bingham, Founder and President of Interfaith Power and Light, and North Carolina IPL honored Pullen with an award for the green features of Pullen's new addition. The underground cistern, geothermal heating and cooling system, rooftop garden, and recycled siding were all highlighted when the Rev. Bingham and NC IPL Director Jill Rios presented our pastors with a certificate of appreciation for these efforts toward care of the Creation.

The Hope Center at Pullen
One of Pullen's goals in expanding our physical space was to be able to expand our commitment to community missions. Our new space includes housing for our new non-profit, the Hope Center at Pullen, offering programs for job seekers along with tutoring and enrichment for elementary, middle, and high school students. Future plans include shower services as part of additional program development.
