Annual Events

Martin Luther King, Jr. Service

For more than twenty years Pullen has joined our sister church, Martin Street Baptist, for a joint MLK service on the Sunday afternoon of the MLK weekend. The pastors and deacons of the two churches meet each year to plan the worship experience and the program that follows. The combined choir is always a highlight of the service and the fellowship that is renewed each year is special. The churches alternate years as the host for this event.

Pullen Outdoor Weekend

Pullen Outdoor Weekend is held annually on Memorial Day Weekend in the North Carolina mountains. Pullen folks gather at Raccoon Holler campground in Glendale Springs, NC for a weekend of outdoor fun and fellowship. For many years this event centered around a canoe trip on the New River. Over the last several years, many participants have started exploring other activities, too, and the name has been changed to reflect the diversity of activities. You may still hear some veterans of the trip slip up and call it Canoe the New. There is no agenda for this event. Folks come when they can, sleep where they may (in a tent, camper, or nearby cabin), and do what they want (shopping, biking, canoeing, hiking, or exploring local tourist venues).

sunday in the parkSunday in the Park

One Sunday morning each September, the Pullen congregation gathers in a local park to commune with creation and each other. We meet for a time of worship followed by a potluck picnic. Everyone is encouraged to come since we do not have worship at the church.

Since Sunday in the Park is outside, this event can accommodate the whole Pullen congregation. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and to catch up with old friends. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and your potluck dish to share and join us for a time of worship, fellowship, and fun.

Thanksgiving Breakfast

On Thanksgiving morning, Pullen celebrates with Thanksgiving Breakfast. We share a potluck breakfast in Finlator Hall at 9:00 AM. This is a good event for those who would otherwise be alone and for those who have family visiting from out of town. Whether your family for the day starts with just you or comes with a whole crowd, join us for this annual potluck breakfast.

Christmas Breakfast

The Annual Christmas Breakfast at Pullen is on the third Sunday of December each year. We gather during the Sunday school hour for a potluck breakfast followed by a time of singing carols. The carol singing concludes with a rousing rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. Some Pullen folks prepare all year for a chance to “strut their stuff” as we sing about calling birds, French hens, and geese laying eggs. The breakfast culminates with a Christmas play presented by the children of Pullen.

Children’s Events

Several annual social events take place for children and families, including an Easter egg hunt, a campout, a swim and pizza party, and more. Dates and descriptions can be found in current events as they come up.
