Rolling Stones: An Easter message for 2016! In case you are wondering, based on the title, if this Easter sermon is about the famous rock group Rolling Stones, let me either put you at ease or go ahead and greatly disappoint you. It’s not! Although there are those who might consider the Rolling Stones concert to an estimated crowd of half a million people in Havana, Cuba on Good Friday a type of resurrection, this sermon is not about the Rolling Stones rock group. During Lent we are offering a weekly blog written by Pullen members about their passions. The phrase “Passion of Jesus” has been used in Christian history to refer to the suffering of Jesus from his entrance into Jerusalem until his crucifixion. This makes sense because one definition of the word “passion” is to suffer. Yet another meaning of the term in English is strength of feeling.
So each Monday in Lent, a Pullen person is sharing in blog form something about which she or he is passionate. It is our hope that reading about the deep commitments of other Pullenites will enrich our own passions and our experience of this holy season.

Why I’m Passionate about Travel to Cuba

Our socio-political process has been hijacked. Far too much of our national political discourse and activity have been poisoned by the dominance of regressive immoral and hateful policy directed toward the poor, the sick, our children, immigrants, communities of color, voting rights, the environment, and religious minorities. We still have too much racism, materialism and militarism.
We cannot remain silent. Our country is in need of a revolution of moral values to champion the sacred values of love, justice and mercy in the public square.
The Revival: A Revolution of Moral Values, led by the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II and the Rev. Dr. James Forbes, aims to be the catalyst for a resurgence of moral political activism among people of conscience and faith leaders. The two pastor/scholars have been invited to 15 states – Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Ohio, Oklahoma and Virginia – including the nation’s capitol for the first leg of the tour. Joining the pastors in selected sites will be faith leaders Rev. Traci blackmon and Sister Simone Campbell.
First Revival: Monday, April 4 at 6:30 PM at Temple Beth Or, 5315 Creedmoor Rd., Raleigh NC 27612
