An update on our Nicaragua partnership:
Let’s start with a message from Christy Lafferty-Garache, AMOS staff member:
I cannot thank you enough for how much each one of you has done to help the people of Nicaragua as they work to improve their health with the support of our AMOS staff. We are truly grateful to have Pullen Memorial Baptist Church as an incredible partner in this ongoing ministry. We want you to know how much we appreciate your prayers, love, (and) presence with those you have sent on recent delegations… So, today we want to share with you a special thank you video from Dr. David, Dr. Laura, and all of us at AMOS with some important highlights of the accomplishments you have helped achieve this year.
We give thanks for the connections between AMOS, Pullen, and our community in 2015:
- Giving nearly $20,000, of which $13,409 was raised while Laura and Christy were here in September. This gift supports the Volunteer Mothers Program for its first year of regular operations—a program established as part of a short-term collaboration with UNC to provide Essential Care to every newborn in a remote area of Nicaragua called the RAAS.
- Sending layettes complete with blanket, hat, and simple clothing to wrap newborns in love and warmth. The “baby kits” save lives by incentivizing moms to obtain prenatal care and deliver in a clinic rather than at home.
- Providing prescription and reading glasses, along with sunglasses, in the communities of El Obraje and Nejapa in May 2015.
- Connections with health professions schools at Duke, UNC and Campbell Universities.
We look forward to continuing to support the Volunteer Mothers Program—our gifts during Advent will make this possible. Caring for vulnerable newborns is a wonderful way to celebrate the coming of the newborn baby Jesus into the world.
