Advent Meditation from Howard Nahikian (1979)
As I recall, the Pullen Christmas Breakfast was initiated during the early fifties when Dr. E. McNeill Poteat was our pastor. In those days it was the custom to prepare coffee and doughnuts for the Meredith and State students who attended Sunday School at Pullen. This year an especially festive breakfast had been prepared on the last Sunday before the students departed for their Christmas holidays. However, during the night a severe ice-storm developed and Sunday morn found very few students inclined to venture out, and for that matter, not too many of the congregation. E. McNeill was there and about forty of the faithful. He suggested that we convene in the lower sanctuary and combine the morning service with breakfast. We did, and unknowingly gave birth to one of the most meaningful and joyful of our traditions at Pullen.
Our Christmas Breakfast is this Sunday, December 21, at 9:00 AM. Bring a breakfast food, family and friends, and join us!
