Meditation from Virginia McMillan, late wife of Robert L. McMillan (1979)
I have to laugh when I recall one Christmas when I was serving on the Decorating Committee for a Christmas party at Pullen Church. We had no money to buy flowers from a florist, so we went out and picked wild flowers to decorate the table – Queen Anne’s Lace, late-blooming goldenrod, and many other pretty things we found by the roadside. We worked diligently decorating the table, and we thought it looked perfectly beautiful when it was finished. The committee members were very proud of themselves for creating this lovely Christmas table without spending any money. But “pride goeth before a fall.” When several of the ladies arrived and looked at the table, they turned around quickly and said they would have to leave. It seems that they were allergic to the flowers. We had to take the arrangements off the table and out of the room in order to persuade the ladies to stay.
