Meditation from Pat Long (1979)
When my brother and I were small, our family observed a tradition which I remember with fondness.
On the first Sunday of Advent, after we had our Advent wreath service, we placed an empty manger and a box of straw on the hearth. Each evening thereafter, Paul and I were permitted to place one straw in the manger for each kind deed we had done for someone else that day.
Our goal was to provide the baby Jesus with a soft bed by Christmas Eve.
During the season of Advent, daily meditations from members of the Pullen community are being posted online. Subscribe by email at www.pullen.org/category/meditation.
