Lenten meditation by Mary Ruth Crook.
I arose early on Sunday morning
to do a load of laundry and
fry a chicken before church.
In the basement I found that the
cat’s box needed changing
so I went outside to the woods.
There, standing on cool-damp grass,
in a whispering, leafy temple,
bird-song in my ears,
sun-gold in my eyes,
Thank you, God
for this glorious,
I raise my arms to you
and accept your gift of
In newness, in light, in dew,
In bird-song, and dawn. Amen.
