Our guest speaker for Alliance of Baptists Sunday this year will be Cody Sanders, a graduate of McAfee School of Theology and a PhD candidate at Brite Divinity School. Cody is a creative voice in the Alliance who is challenging us to consider new ways of thinking about being church, especially in the context of LGBT participation and leadership. He will preach for us at Pullen on Sunday, August 18.
On Saturday, August 17, Cody will lead an evening workshop titled: From Relationship Idols to Relational Ideals: Queering the Endgame of Marriage Equality. He explains, “While marriage equality brings with it many important gains in equal rights, benefits, and protections for same-sex couples, what might we lose if we make this the ultimate goal of our striving? The workshop will ask: What have LGBTQ people learned about the formation of intimate relationships at the margins of church and society that hold lessons for us all to learn?”
The event begins with a potluck dinner at 5:30 PM and concludes at 8:30 PM. All are welcome, so we hope you will plan to join us in this important conversation. Childcare is available if requested by Tuesday, August 13. For more information contact Brooks Wicker at email@example.com.
